The Rosemary Project

Updated: Jun 3, 2021

The Rosemary Project began a few years ago. I feel like I should start out with saying, “Once Upon a Time...” because it is really a story instead of a project. A story with a Rosemary theme that has allowed me to tie together gardening, drawing, creative writing, and technology. All exploratory paths where it has been fun experimenting and learning new skills. I hope you enjoy the short video and story below.

The video (my first one) tells a picture story of the little rosemary plant that grew huge over about 2 years. I had no idea what to do with it! After cutting it back I had a mound of rosemary that I didn’t want to throw away. As I sat on my picnic table and stared at the mound of rosemary branches, I slowly worked through a plan to dry it using old mop strings to bundle it and a wooden tomato stake to string up the bundles. Once dried I was able to strip the branches and put it into cooking bags and spice jars that I gave to family and friends. It was quite an enjoyable project to take something from the garden to the table!

The short story is an extra and purely for entertainment bonus! The short story evolved from the phrase, “Rosemary is for Remembrance”. It was written a few years ago, yes, “Once Upon a Time” …. when I was pursuing drawing and creative writing classes.

Have fun watching and reading! It is amazing what the garden can teach us!
