Ready, Set, Grow! A new year of gardening awaits us!
September is a busy and exciting month for the Garden Club of Lake Ridge. As a garden club member, you have access to a wide variety of activities and associations that can enrich your gardening experience and knowledge. Whether you are interested in learning new skills, meeting new friends, exploring new places, or contributing to your community, there is something for everyone in the gardening world. Here are events and activities that occurred in September 2023. I think you will be amazed at the extensive and diverse topics.
On September 8, 2023, District II of the National Capital Area Garden Clubs (NCAGC), held their Fall meeting and program at River Farm. The program was BEE-Dazzling Bees presented by Ryan Dickson who is a passionate beekeeper.
On September 9, 2023, the Garden Club of Lake Ridge (GCLR) held their first pop up education event at the Chinn Park Children’s Garden called What’s the Buzz about Pollinators?
On September 11, 2023, the Garden Club of Lake Ridge officially kicked off their program year with a Meet ‘n Greet meeting along with a plant swap.
On September 3, 2023, the National Garden Clubs, hosted a zoom meeting on Single Use Plastics, Problems and Solutions presented by Dr. Rachel Meidl from Rice University’s Baker Institute.
On September 15, 2023, a GCLR assembly team put together a Trex park bench made from over 500 pounds of collected plastic. The bench was donated by Keep Prince William Beautiful to the GCLR Chinn Park Children’s Garden and now resides adjacent to the garden for all to enjoy.
On September 20, 2023, Prince William Area Council of Garden Clubs held a meeting at Cedar Run Brewery and had an interesting speaker on Virginia Snake Identification. The presenter Bill Crisp with K2C Wildlife Encounters taught us how to accurately identify snake species of Virginia and the best practices for limiting snake access to your property and home. Show and Tell snakes along with information were there!
On September 25, 2023, the Central Atlantic Region of State Garden Clubs held a zoom meeting on Artificial Intelligence and the many tools including a demonstration of Chat GPT, Google AI, Adobe Firefly and more.
On September 27, 2023, the Garden Club of Lake Ridge launched a new initiative called Lunch ‘n Learn with the first topic: Demonstration of Herbs – Drying, Infusing and Mingling, oh my! By Becky’s Pixie Kitchen. Included two giveaways of infused oil/vinegar.
